* The Election of Cardinal Ratzinger as Pope Benedict XVI, ILGA Press Release, Brussels, 20/04/2005
" .. The International Lesbian and Gay Association (ILGA) wishes to express its dismay and deep concerns over the election of ultraconservative and homophobic Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger to papacy of the Roman Catholic Church. .. "
The Greek view: most people here rather don't feel the new pope concerns us. We know that all religions unite against lgbt people and our rights. In the Greek Church, being extra-conservative and expressly ultra-homophobic is a must for any male wishing fot a career in the church. Very few people have noticed that the late pope was a rather unusually polite and peace-loving person (for a pope). Much fewer may foresee how an extra-conservative pope may stall the advancement of lgbt equal rights in most of Europe and the west. There's much more to say about the Greek church and how dearly their conservatism costs, especially in terms of basic mainstream education about human rights and personal health, or rather the total lack of it...

* Homosexual marriage in USA: you know there's almost five thousand couples married since February 12th, 2004. A few of those happy persons are of Greek origin. If you're one of them, make sure you got your registration papers verified by your Foreign Office next time you come to Greece with your spouse. That's what the Greek law demands to recognize you as a married couple. (I suppose valid US passports would do.. but you never know with the Greek authorities..)

* UN: sexual and reproducive rights are human rights and affect everyone's well-being.. but an international org. run by interests and affected by consortiums may take years to discover the obvious.
the Brasil proposal came in 2003.. it's yet "under discussion"..
